Helpful Hints

AC

  • Make sure the thermostat is in AC (or cool) mode and that the batteries are working.
  • Is the power on to the AC unit outside? By the AC unit outside there is usually a large breaker; make sure that is set to the “on” position.
  • Are the breakers for the AC and Furnace to the “on” position?
  • Is the furnace filter clean? If not; replace the filter as air conditioners need adequate air flow to work. After changing the filter allow 24 hours to see if the system begins to operate/cool.
  • Do you see the lines inside the furnace frozen or water at the base of your furnace/air handler? Turn the AC unit off for 24 hours to let it thaw out. This may be caused by a dirty filter; remove and replace the filter. If the lines freeze again then turn the unit off and call for service.

Furnace

  • Are the breakers for the AC and Furnace set to the “ON” position?
  • Is the furnace filter clean? A dirty filter will block air flow and can cause a number of problems that can turn into costly repairs.
  • Is the vent outside covered by ice/snow and blocking airflow.
  • Is the thermostat in furnace (or heat) mode.
